Artist Statement
The Permanent Fragility of Being (August 2020) is one of a series of paintings made during the Pandemic. It was an attempt to make sense of, plus navigate around, this new landscape all of us found ourselves in. From March to December, 2020, working from my life drawings, I embarked on a series of paintings, including portraits, which functioned as a kind of love letter; a visual correspondence, with friends and family. These paintings were a way of reinforcing my connection with people despite the distance that separated us.
